OUR LEGACY

DON'T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT

Obviously

What can I say about this amazing collection that hasn't all ready been said? The first ten comics in each of Marvel's famous line-up (Though X-Men starts with Giant Sized X-Men #1, not the Uncanny X-Men).

All in all you get the 100 comics that started theMarvel mythology and launched its beloved characters into our imagination. Some of these comics go for thousands and are impossible to find except in reprints like the "Essentials" collections (Highly recommended as well if you want more than just the firstten issues) but with the miracle of CD's and computers you don't need to go out and buy those comics or reptints to see your favorite hero's origin. If you're a fan of Marvel Comics and haven't read these original stories then what areyou waiting for! The price is right and the material you get is truly priceless!

As a Marvel fan since 1968 onward, I've dreamed of a collection like this. The classicicon heroes of my youth forever preserved in pristine condition, dynamically digitized, electronically enumerated! Herein, find, if ye dare, the original appearance not only ofmost core heroes of the Marvel Universe, but the supremely villanous counterparts: DrDoom, The Mandarin, Doc Ock, Magneto. A rogue's gallery! Art by the incomparable Jack "King" Kirby and Steve Ditko! Scripts by Stan "The Man" Lee! Who could ask formore! Make mine Marvel!

A nice feature: Special buttons along the top row allow you to view either the uncoloredart, or the colors without the black ink. The quality of the reproduction is excellent. Even when grossly blown up, there is no sign of digitization in the display.

I collected X-Men back in the 70's and 80's, and always loved the original team the best. My collection is now stocked safely away from children and dogs and whatnot, but I can now enjoy every issue in prestine mint wherever I find myself, even take the whole kitand kaboodle on the road. A previous reviewer was frustrated at Mac OS X not beingable to detect his DVD. He may want to get a replacement disk, because I can vouch personally that the DVD runs perfectly on my Mac portable.

I've tried this on two different mac computers: an emac desktop and an ibook G4, it runs perfectly on both. I see that some people are having problems, I'll see if I can help with that at the end of the review. I'm a huge x-men fan, but can't afford to buy a bunch of back-issues. The essential book collections are affordable, but they're printed in black & white.

With this one disc you get almost 500 uncanny issues, including annuals, all are high-quality scan in's. The disc also has a nice little bio section, and comes with the neccessary adobe software.

Honestlty I got this product two weeks ago, and ohh my.... I lost my life to it. This prodcut has every Uncanny X-Men for over 40 years. I'm trying to read them all, but of course that more then 500 comics. I proably won't finish untill 2 years from now (that's if I read 2 a day - which is my goal).

Now you ask is it worth the trouble? If you really want to read these comic, "Yes it is." And you will save tons of money buying this product instead of the reprint book form. Now I have to say it is nice to have the book and go anywhere you want with it, but you can do the same with the laptop, but you will hate that paneling with the mouse. Is the product children friendly? NO! But doesn't mean they won't enjoy it.

I love having all of the older comics online. It is difficult to try and find storylines through the years with all of the older paper books. I have over 30 boxes of comics and it's almost impossible to keep track of these, not to mention expensive.

With these, I am archiving all of them to my server. That way, whenever I'm online, I can read a few issues. If I want to print them out, that's good too. I would much rather have these online instead of books. More please!

I would like to see more collections of titles (What If?, Dr. Strange, Defenders, etc). I already own all of the titles that have come out on CD. I would even sign up for subscriptions if I could get them all on CD.

This was a great idea to put all these comic books on one DVD. Now I don't have to dig through my old comic book collection to find an issue. Its all neatly organized by dateand issue number.

I highly recomend it. It includes my favorite stories from the late 1980's - early 1990's when Todd McFarlane (creator of Spawn) was drawing Spider-Man. If you have not seen his work on Spider-Man, getting this DVD just for those issuesis worth it. In my book, he was and still is the best Spider-Man Artist that ever worked on any Spider-Man title.

My husband loved this as a gift. He is a long-time comic book fan and this gave him an opportunity to read some of the very first editions that are way before his time. They look amazing on the computer, plus you can print if you want (with 15,000+ pages I can't imagine why you'd want to) I was concerned about Mac compatibility, but since the thing is just a PDF interface, you just need Acrobat, no special Windows-only software. We're looking to pick up the Spiderman collection next.

Alright, for those of you who are wondering, this is THE COMPLETE FANTASTICFOUR! That's right, you won't ever need another collection! Although it does *not* include crossover issues, this fantastic dvd-rom includes everyissue of the Fantastic Four ever published!

I have been a die-hard fan of the old comics since I was ten, so when I popped this baby into my laptop, it actually brought tears to my eyes to see the full-color reproductions (scanned onto disc!!!) of the original comics, complete with the ads theyran with and everything! Of course, if you like the more modern comics, you need look no further!

This collection, I believe, runs all the way up to 2005! I would also like to point out that Marvel has recently issued collections of its older comics, the seminal works in the series. A collection from the Fantastic Four series, containing about 20 issues, costs me anywhere from 10-20 dollars, and it's just newsprint bound in paper. Therefore, to get over 18000 pages in scanned comics for 40 dollars is almost ludicrous! I think my decision is clear - buy it, you'll never regret it!

How do you review the coolest thing in the world? The art and the writing speak for themselves and they are wonderful! All I have to say is I hope they keep making these amazing cd-roms. They are perfect, easy to store and easy to read. Every night after a hard day of work I love to curl up with a cup of tea and my x-men comic. My advice is please buy this and speak loud and clear to Marvel and the company who produces these that we want more of them. I hope other companies get the hint too and producetheir titles in this way it's just so perfect and easy to store!

This item was everything it said it was and more. Everything is well organized into decades, then years. The images are of normal comic page size and perfectly readable on my computer. I couldn't be happier.

I waffled for months on getting this and now I regret all that wasted time. Seriously, if you are the kind of person who thinks you might this, and you can comfortably read off acomputer screen, you will love it. This is so much cooler than I thought it would be! I'm now a convert to digital archives of my favorite magazines - maybe the Mad Magazine collection will be next.

Regarding technical details - I was concerned that since I'm on a mac I would have trouble with the software, but it's plain vanilla pdf, and very easy use. It would be nice ifthe issues were indexed just in case I were to go nuts and decide to read every issue with Juggernaut in it, but that's my only complaint. What you get is well worth the price, so that's easy to overlook.

This has brought back so many childhood memories. I remember reading some of the early 1986 comics when they came out. GREAT collection of tons of comics for a very low price. Can't beat it. Put them in your Dropbox account and you can read them from anywhere. Awesome.

Fastball Special

This is a compendium of scanned comics of the original X-Men series, which I stoppedcollecting myself back in the early 90's. Just getting a hold of vieweing some of these gems of issues (the Byrne/Claremont era of the series is what I reflect on the mostregarding storylines and artwork and character development) is tough enough, without having to let my little kids get a hold of my old issues kept in storage.

Now with the advent of CD-ROM and scanning, the issues are mine to review and share with my kids for years to come. Keep in mind that the scan is of old issues directly and not revitalized or color washed or digitized for better resolution, so you better expect to see the original fibrous components of the old pulp/paper composition of 1960s thru 1990's comic bookpaper material. Nothing at all like an updated trade paperback, but for the volume ofissues and given how hard it is to get certain storylines published in a trade paperback format, it is well worth the ~ $100 price for the collection. Other than what a comic book aficianodo would pick up like the scan quality, and old ads for kids products, like candy and x-ray glasses and what not, I think that the choice to purchase this collection of comics is a good one.

Suffice to say, that I soon intend on expanding my collection to include Spider Man issues as well as the Avengers and Fantastic Four. Now off to startreading a storyline that I haven't read in ages...Days of Future Past (X-Men 141 and142). Enjoy!

I just got this DVD-rom and I love it! 485 issues of the Uncanny X-men, from the very first issue in 1963, to August 2005. The comics look gorgeous and are readable in entirety, including covers, ads, fan letters, etc. The only downside is this set is strictly UncannyX-Men, so on crossovers like X-Tinction Agenda, or X-Cutioner's Song, there are significant gaps.

The packaging is also a little flimsy. Other than that, this is a fantastic product. For hardcore fans, you might want to check out Marvel's digital comics subscription, which is only a little bit more. Personally, I decided against it because while the digital comics section offers all of the recent issues, the back issues are sorely lacking, and I just didn't think it was worth it. Until Marvel puts substantially more comics on the website, I'd say these sets are an excellent buy. After trying this DVD-rom out, now I want the Spider-Man one!

I was a huge X-Men fan, but knew there was no way to go back and buy all the comics I missed growing up. This is a the next best thing. I've read some of the other reviews with people complaining that this didn't contain all of the crossovers and side stories. I would also like for them to have been included, but realize that would have been almost impossible as the size of the Marvel Universe would have made it difficult to include any story that had anything to do with any member of the X-Men. If you are looking for a good place to start to catch up on all of the old X-Men stories and their history, I would highly recommend this.

This disc is a very special treat for all loyal Fantastic Four fans. While I am also a subscriber to Marvel Comics; Unlimited Digital Service, this disc serves as a nice supplement to said service. Not only does it cover a lot more Fantastic Four issues, butit shows them in the manner in which the original Silver Age comics did, with the small red dots on the characters' faces. For any Fantastic Four lover who has developed allergies to old paper or the damp smell which hits most old comics, this disc is a life-saver!

If you can get this collection do not hesitate. I am really glad I found these products before it was too late. Because Marvel is going to rent there digital comics on there website they did not renew the contract with GIT corp and after the end of the year, no more will be made.

This is the best gift I have gotten in a long time. At first I was not sure how to feel about it since, as a comic book fan, I love actually reading comics and turning the pages. But, I also like my comics to be in excellent shape, and reading them puts them at risk. Well with this I can read them, ALL of them and won't ever have to open them if I don't want to.

Besides, the amount of comics contained on the disc is incredible. I love being able to follow a story arc for 25 issues in row if I want to with out having to wait two years forthe comics to come out, or running out of comics. It's really cool and I advise it stronglyto those enjoy actually reading their comics.

There's more to the X men stories than meets the eye at first glance - one of the things that makes them interesting besides the escapism and the variety of powers on display is the stories overall can be viewed as a metaphor for situations seen in real life- adult-fare really, such as genocide (everyone in the books is always trying to wipe out mutants completely just because they are different; to cite one example) plus the X men and mutants as a group are constantly marginalized and rejected by the rest of the characters in the books- which is an analogy to what happens with certain groups in real life. So in addition to the adventure there's a lot here to think about as well. And in this collection you get hundreds of comics in handy disc form which saves a lot of space so it's a win all around.
